Traffic Services

Traffic Services
With regular surveys and meetings with the public, the City has found Traffic Concerns to consistently rate at the top for areas that need to be addressed. To this end the Avondale Police Department has taken a number of steps to work in this area.  To report traffic related concerns or issues call the Traffic Hotline at 623-333-7013.

Police Motorcycles
Officers assigned to motorcycle patrol conduct selective traffic enforcement throughout the city. Their enforcement sites are based on accident reports, citizen complaints and specialized locations (i.e., school zones, cross walks, etc). If you have a specific traffic complaint call, or e-mail us. We will assign these officers or others to focus on your problem.

Smart TrailerThis trailer is set up at various sites to measure and display driver speed. Primarily used as an educational tool, the trailer serves to remind the driver what the posted speed is and hopes to change the behavior of unsafe speed. If you think your neighborhood might benefit in having the Smart Trailer there please call or e-mail us.

Signs & Signals
Often citizens will notice areas that appear to be unsafe and feel a traffic sign or other steps will address the problem. If you have noticed such an unsafe condition please call or send us a message by e-mail. A safety Committee made up of police representatives along with other City personnel will review your request and act upon any safety issue.

DUI Traffic Enforcement
The Avondale Police actively enforces DUI (Driving while Under the Influence) laws. Grant funds allow officers to conduct drunk driving patrols during the times when offenders are most likely to be caught.

Accident Investigations
All officers are trained to conduct accident investigations. A Vehicle Crimes Unit (VCU) has been established within our agency to investigate fatal accidents or incidents of particular complexity that requires in-depth investigation. These specially trained officers are called out to such scenes bring with them advanced technology and other tools to aid in these investigations. Their advanced expertise allows them to take measurements and make calculations to determine speed of vehicles, precisely diagram accidents and allows us to determine how the accident occurred.
